Title: Remembrance Day

By: A. Pasma, 2014-11-11 13:57:26

Today is a day we give thanks to those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Recently, a Canadian from North Bay gave the gift of a Maple tree as a "memorial to Canadian soldiers who brought freedom and forged a lasting bond between the Dutch and Canadian people." She was in the Netherlands planting the tree a short time ago. Please read the article below to learn more of the history between the two countries, and how a single tree can hold so much meaning. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/sudbury/wwii-memorial-canadian-maple-tree-planted-in-holland-1.2829827

New By-Law in Oakville will cost residents a pretty penny

Title: New By-Law in Oakville will cost residents a pretty penny

By: A. Pasma, 2014-04-25 10:00:22

If you are an Oakville resident, it is important you take a look at the attached comment sheet, fill it out, and send it into the Town. You can send in the completed form to privatetreebylawreview@oakville.ca Unfortunately, if the new by-law is passed it will end up costing residents a small fortune. The goal is to grow the canopy in Oakville to 40 percent, which is supported by A-Star, and I am sure, most residents. The problem is, the cost associated with the enormous loss of trees due to development, disease and storm damage, is being placed on individual residents rather than being fairly distributed amongst developers as well. It is important that you speak up now, while you have the opportunity. If you require further information, please let us know.

Title: Potential Changes to Oakville's tree removal process

By: A. Pasma, 2014-04-24 13:59:23

Oakville residents, the Town is currently looking at making some various changes to the Oakville Private Tree Removal By-law. There was a notice in the Oakville Beaver that mentions the changes, and we have a representative attending the meeting this evening in order to find out more information. It sounds like tree removal in Oakville could end up being very costly to you, the residents, with various restrictions and permit fees. It is important you voice your concerns at the meeting this evening, 7-9pm, 1225 Trafalgar Rd, or via email, privatetreebylawreview@oakville.ca You can check out the article through the link below, and we will also have an update for you after the meeting this evening. http://www.insidehalton.com/news-story/4447911-town-of-oakville-seeks-input-on-private-tree-bylaw/

Included Bark - The danger you weren't aware even exsisted

Title: Included Bark - The danger you weren't aware even exsisted

By: A. Pasma, 2014-03-20 14:36:45

I just wanted to post a note about a very real problem with trees that most people are not aware of. It is called included bark, and it happens at the junction of co-dominant stems where there is a union that looks more like a "v" than a "u". As the tree grows, the narrow area fills with bark, and creates a very weak area in the structure of the tree. This weakness puts stress on either one or both of the co-dominant stems, and as the tree grows, the "v" only becomes deeper. Trees with included bark are at a huge risk of failure. Stress on the stem unions caused from high winds, snow, or like we just witnessed, the weight of ice, will cause them to split or break at the junction. It is important to inspect your trees, even the young ones, for the potential or evidence of included bark. If you suspect your trees might be affected, contact us today for a free quote. Catching the problem early could save your tree, and a lot of future headache.
