Title: Your Home Inspection should Include Trees

By: A. Pasma, 2012-01-25 13:20:04

I have so many customers that have just moved into their home, and have to hire us, because they find a dangerous, dead or hazardous tree on their new property. It would benefit the buyer so much to have the trees on the property inspected, prior to purchase as with the home inspection, so that they can be aware of potential expenses. Title: Fir Trees

By: A. Pasma, 2011-12-22 14:11:45

Just a quick tip for those of you who have young Fir Trees. It is a good idea to pick the cones off of the Fir Trees, when they are younger (20 feet and smaller) for the health of the tree.

Winter Tree Removal

Title: Winter Tree Removal

By: A. Pasma, 2011-12-06 09:53:25

A-Star Tree Experts is a year round company, and often times, it is easier to remove a tree in the winter. Winter tree removal is a better option sometimes because the tree is free of sap, water and leaves, so it weighs less, causing less damage to the ground when the tree is brought down. The ground is further protected because it is frozen, so the weight of the tree does not gouge into the ground, as it would in the warmer seasons. If you live in Oakville, Burlington, or Mississauga, and have a tree you would like removed, but have hesitated due to the surrounding landscape, the winter is the perfect time to have the tree removed.

Title: Tree Pruning Mississauga

By: A. Pasma, 2011-12-02 09:29:52

I was going through some photos of this past year, and I wanted to share this great photo of the team pruning a large three stem Oak tree in Mississauga. We spent the majority of the season pruning and removing trees in Oakville, Mississauga, and Burlington, and this picture is a great example of the team at work.

Title: Largest Trees

By: A. Pasma, 2011-11-30 09:05:07

I read an interesting fact the other day, that I wanted to share with everyone. We know trees have been around forever, and they can grow quite large, but did you know the oldest trees are up to 4600 years old? And the tallest tree is a Coast Redwood in California, measuring 360 feet tall! The most shocking to me was the Ada Tree in Australia, it is about 240 feet tall, and has a root system that spreads up to more than an acre! Those are some incredible trees.

Title: Cytospora Canker of Blue Spruce Trees

By: A. Pasma, 2011-11-28 09:46:39

Cytospora Cankers are usually present in older trees, or trees planted in a poor environment. Trees that are weakened by environmental factors, such as drought, high temperatures, or freeze damage are also susceptible. Infected trees will have scattered dead branches, usually starting from the lower branches. The fungus gains entrance into the tree through broken branches or open cuts, and girdles the branch, killing it. You can usually find a white sticky sap on the dead branches, which is the trees response to the fungus. There is no cure for the disease, so if you notice your tree is infected, the best option is to have the infected branches pruned from the tree. Also, adding mulch around the tree will help, as it reduces the competition from turfgrass. Insecticide sprays are not effective in removing the fungus.
