Title: Help Stop the spread of Pests and DiseasesAs most people are aware, the effects of the Emerald Ash Borer have had a devastating affect on the trees in our area of Southern Ontario. You can help stop the spread of this insect and other insects and diseases by keeping all wood in its area of origin. This means that transporting firewood from City to City is not a good idea, and in fact is regulated by the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR). Title: Diseases- AmendmentIf you read the most recent post on diseases affecting trees in Ontario, you might have noticed it was a little dated, and therefore missing one major disease most of us are familiar with now. The Emerald Ash Borer. The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is an invasive insect from Asia. The larvae eat the soft wood under the trees bark, preventing the tree from moving water and nutrients from its roots to its leaves, thus killing the tree in one to three years. The only treatment available is a preventative treatment, where the trees are injected with TreeAzin, a biological insecticide. If you have an Ash tree on your property, take action now, before it is too late, as this invasive insect has already done far too much damage to our trees in southern Ontario. |

Title: Don't forget to water your treesWe have had a record breaking hot dry summer thus far, and it seems it is only going to continue. When you are out in the garden watering your plants, don't forget to water your trees as well. Trees continue to grow despite the drought, and can become stressed without enough water. The Town of Oakville has asked all residents to water the trees on their property, and the adjeacent property, as seen in the article below. Title: What to Expect with a Large Crane RemovalA-Star completed a large crane removal yesterday. We had to take down 6 hazardous Ash trees with minimal access, which required us to rent a 40 tonne crane. Attached is a pciture of what to expect when a large crane is involved in tree removal. We will be adding additional pictures to the site soon. Using a crane is an efficient and safe way to remove trees when access is minimal. |

Title: Success in Cloning an Elm TreeI just read a very interesting article on the success of cloning an Elm tree. For the past many decades Elm trees have been victim to Dutch Elm Disease, and have been decreasing rapidly from our forests and our Citys. A Professor at the University of Guelph has been able to Clone an Elm that has been resistant to the disease for years.
