Common Name: Common alder, European alder, Black alder


 


Latin Name: Alnus gluttinosa


 


Family: Betulaceae


 


Size: Up to 70 ft,


 


Shape: Very tall and skinny, rounded decurrent.


 


Trunk: Trunk are generally smaller than 1 1/2 ft wide. The trunk has bumps the same color as the bark, that makes the tree look like it has pimples.


 


Wood: The wood is light.


 


Branches: The branches are sparse in the lower half and dense in the canopy.


 


Description:This tree is an invasive specimen in forests. The tree likes moist conditions.
